OK I have much exciting news but am so busy working to get this new record out for you that I am writing today just to tell you about a special performance I have coming up this Friday, July 16th at the Petite Riviere Winery in Crousetown, NS, Canada.

I am performing with my absolute favorite Canadian songwriter Michael Brennan who is traveling from Toronto and originally from good ole Cape Breton, NS.

I fondly recall the first time I heard a song of Michaels’ on the radio, a country rock number called Rockabilly Ray, which is a story about a has-been rockabilly character hitchhiking out of Halifax, NS who is picked up by a black Cadillac. The song features a wicked hook in which the character claims ” I used to be something in my day, toured all over the USA, had my name in lights: Rockabilly Ray, yeah I used to be something in my day”.

Michael will be selling his latest record “Anywhere but Here” which features some of the most beautiful country songs I have heard, referencing Cape Breton and other rural portraits of NS characters including a young man who travels out west for work and finds himself longing for the nostalgic Northumberland sea among other things.

Michael Brennan is simply too good to miss… I’ll be singing some of my songs with him, and this show is at a freaking beautiful winery in Petite Riviere. Seating is limited; I hope you can make it :)

September 9, 2009

Good Day,
Here is a wee update from cyberspace… and just so you know our online presence has been recognized recently (more on that in a bit)!

Firstly, Ryan Cook will be at Minstrels this Sunday evening (7:30pm) with special guest Mark Floria on acoustic guitar. Mark appeared at Minstrels a few weeks ago and wowed everyone with his exotic country picking. Mark previously played on a number CBC Country Music television shows in the 1970’s. Minstrels is located at 5472 Spring Garden Rd Halifax, Nova Scotia Te. 902-422-8100 www.minstrels.ca

Ryan Cook is thrilled to have been recently nominated for two Music Nova Scotia Awards, Male Artist Recording of the Year (Hot Times) and Digital Artist of the Year. See, all of these annoying newsletters and Facebook invites have finally paid off! www.musicnovascotia.ca

Ryan will be performing in the Songs and Stories Concert at the 2009 Music Nova Scotia Awards in Yarmouth, NS along with host Matt Minglewood, Erin Costelo, Steven Bowers, Jenn Grant, Julian Babin and Jeanne (Doucet) Currie. Songs and Stories will be held at Th’YARC, 76 Parade Street in Yarmouth, on Saturday, November 7th at 8:00pm with doors opening at 7:00pm. Tickets are on sale now for $19.99 (HST included, not including convenience fee). Tickets for Songs and Stories and festival wristbands are available for purchase at www.ticketpro.ca

Anyone wishing to see Hank Williams Sr. live in concert will have one more opportunity as Ryan travels to Sackville, NB Monday to prepare for the second run of “Hank Williams: The Show he Never Gave”. The show will run Tuesday Sept. 15th- Saturday Sept. 19th at the Live Bait Theatre www.livebaittheatre.com Tickets are available through Ticketpro http://ww3.ticketpro.ca/event.php?event_id=634

Upon returning to Nova Scotia, Ryan Cook and Sunny Acres will perform at the Deep Roots Music Festival in Wolfville, NS, Sept. 26 and 27th. Dear Friends,

Firstly, the award-winning, ECMA nominated LP “Hot Times’ that was released in February 2008 with my band Sunny Acres is now officially SOLD OUT of its first pressing. There are a few remaining copies at CD Plus in Fredericton, NB and possibly Carl’s Store in Tusket, NS.  A limited second run of 100 copies will be available from the stage only for the remainder of 2009. The album will otherwise only be available for download from I-tunes, Napster, Amazon, etc.

What an exciting summer it has been. I have just completed a two-week run of the Maynard Collins play “Hank Williams- The Show He Never Gave”. The show was a smashing success at the Live Bait Theatre in Sackville, NB, and will be returning for a second run September 15- 19. Tickets are nearly sold out so please visit the website www.livebaittheatre.com to secure a seat.

Our trip to Nashville, TN also far exceeded our expectations and saw myself along with Brian Baker and George Barkhouse performing at WSM Radio’s outdoor stage at the Ryman Auditorium and later at Ernest Tubb’s Record shop during CMA Fan Fest. I am continuing to work with WSM on future opportunities and have received letters from many fans south of the border. We met Elvis Costello among many others on our journey and had the tremendous experience to see the one and only Jamey Johnson in concert. If you have not listened to Jamey Johnson, he is single-handedly saving Country Music today as we know it… a true songwriter’s songwriter. Check him out at www.jameyjohnson.com …but please download my record first… thanks.

This weekend I will be performing a matinee in Halifax at Bearly’s House of Blues and Ribs (1269 Barrington St.) with George Barkhouse and newcomer to the Sunny Acres band, Brad Reid. Sunday I will be performing at the Songwriters Circle and later that evening with the full Sunny Acres lineup (including Bob McDonald on pedal steel) at the coveted 14th annual New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee, in Pictou County, NS. Full lineup and ticket information at www.jubilee.ns.ca

Tune into the Mainstreet program on CBC Radio One tomorrow afternoon (Friday) to hear Ryan Cook talking about The New Glasgow Jubilee and the summer festival circuit in Atlantic Canada!
Listen live at 90.5 FM in metro or online at www.cbc.ca/mainstreetns

Thank you
